Just for fun today! Or at least that was what I was telling myself going into it, as I hadn’t been able to do enough training as I would have liked. However, I’m not entirely sure I would use the word fun when describing The Great Celtic Trail Half Marathon! Horrendous comes fairly close, well certainly the weather conditions today were. Rain, mist and wind. Couldn’t see too far from the path and at times it felt like running through stream beds. I am fairly confident that 98% of the route was uphill!
Struggled with the lack of people on the course cheering us on but I don’t blame people for not wanting to be out on a day like today! It was great to see all of the PRR crew on the course, just what I needed just prior to the half way mark. I was so wet at the end that I didn’t take an obligatory finish shot!
It was extremely slippery under foot. However, having said that, knowing me I’ll sign up to the next one in a day’s time! It was certainly a challenge but one I have achieved, my first trail half (apart from the Vale Ultra) and the medal and t shirt are really cool. Hopefully we can get some more runners next time. Feeling proper proud of myself. Would have liked to have done it under 2 1/2 hours but all things considered I am really pleased. Not sure I like hills any better today, but I feel that the training that we do in the local area really does help with races like this!
